Measuring vehicles will be underway in June and July

Geozug Ingenieure AG, based in Baar, and iNovitas AG (Baden) are driving the digitalisation of the transport infrastructure in the canton of Zug. According to a recent press release, their collaboration is resulting in a comprehensive digital twin of the canton's road network, known as infra3D.
 

To this end, surveys will be conducted throughout the canton of Zug in June and July, using measuring vehicles. The press release states: data collection will take place exclusively on public roads, in compliance with data protection regulations, and without any disruption to traffic. People and vehicle licence plates will be anonymised, making it impossible to identify individuals. The collected data will be available only to authorised professionals or administrative bodies with the appropriate permissions, and will not be publicly accessible.

Virtual Field Surveys instead of on-site inspections
The highly precise, spatially referenced 3D image data will then form a central basis for public administrations, engineering firms, and utility companies.

In addition to traditional surveying and planning tasks, the geo-referenced 3D image data opens up new potential for AI-supported analyses. These include, for example, assessing road conditions or carrying out inventories of infrastructure assets. Further applications include simulations or the preparation of construction projects directly in the digital space.

Municipal administrations will be able to access precise information for the planning, maintenance and documentation of their infrastructure. Engineering and planning firms will be able to conduct analyses and project planning more efficiently, while utility companies can use the data for planning and operating their networks.

Virtual field surveys in infra3D reduce the need for on-site inspections, with numerous work steps being shifted to the digital road space. This lowers costs and conserves resources, the press release continues.
