Matura work by a Canti student in Zug a bit of a laugh

Michael Bumbacher presented his comedy show “Churz und Mündig” in the Rathaus-Schüür in Baar

Lots of spectators came to the Rathus-Schüür in Baar to watch the comedy show "Churz und Mündig", (short and mature), which was created as part of Michael Bumbacher's matura (school certificate) work. “I've always wanted to appear as a comedian, because I love comedy. I just like to make people laugh,” says Bumbacher. "The Matura work is a great opportunity for me to see how I do as a comedian."

The student at the Cantonal School in Zug has been collecting ideas for the show since the beginning of the year. “Finding ideas was not that easy. I sometimes waited in vain for inspiration over several days.” In his show, Michael Bumbacher relates experiences from his life to the audience.

"In my show, I want to briefly tell the people about my life, and how I have changed from the small, short Michi to the big, mature Michi."

A thread runs across the stage, from which cards with titles such as  “Michi im Chindsgi” (Michi in the kindergarten) or “Michi im Praktikum” (Michi as a trainee) hang, and literally form the common thread of the show. The 18-year-old student talks about fun experiences from his life with a lot of enthusiasm, and brings the whole audience to laugh. “When I wrote the script, I had to carefully consider which of my stories had potential for the stage. And, of course, you still have to exaggerate a bit to make a story really amusing,” he adds.

A lot of hard work has gone into the two-hour show. What looks like improvised comedy is actually thoroughly planned. Michael Bumbacher started writing the script in the summer. “Completing the script in time to start rehearsing was the biggest challenge. I was about a month later when I finished writing my script,” he says. The extremely successful show showed, however, that the preparations have led to success despite the tight schedule. "It was a lot of fun for me to present my scenes and make everyone laugh with my jokes," says Bumbacher proudly.

The comedy show by the high school graduate last Sunday evening was sold out to the last place weeks before the performance date, with 90 people attending the performance, but a special highlight for the sixth grader was the presence of two prominent guests at the show; Comedian Michael Elsener and radio and television presenter Nik Hartmann. “I had the honour of interviewing Michael Elsener and Nik Hartmann, and was able to obtain some valuable tips. In return, I offered them both tickets for my show, and I was delighted to see that they actually turned up,” says Bumbacher.

In the end, the audience thanked him for the great performance and the extremely successful show with a standing ovation. A subsequent aperitif gave visitors the opportunity to congratulate the young comedian on the successful performance. “I'm glad that the show was so well received by everyone. Michael Elsener was full of praise, and encouraged me to continue with comedy. I definitely had a lot of fun. Let's just see what happens next”, he concludes.
