Man dodges quarantine, and now has to pay

A 31-year-old man came home after a week's holiday abroad. Although Croatia was considered a risk country at that time, he did not report to the authorities. He therefore soon received mail from the Zug Public Prosecutor's Office.

The weather in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, was varied between 1 and 7 October 2020. Clear skies and sunshine, but also rain and thunderstorms, were reported by the weather station at the airport in Pleso, a good ten kilometres from the city centre, in those autumn days.

Exactly where the 31-year-old Zug man stayed on his holiday is not shown on the penalty order issued by the Zug Prosecutor's Office less than two months after his return. One thing is clear, however: the staying in his home country has had a costly aftermath for the native Croat.

CHF 1,000 fine and costs
After returning from the holidays on 8 October, he didn’t report to the authorities or go into quarantine. Which he should have done, because Croatia was considered a corona-risk country at the time. Because of this infringement of the Epidemic Act (Epidemiegesetz) and the Covid 19 Ordinance, the Zug Public Prosecutor's Office sentenced the man to a fine of CHF 1,000, plus CHF 300 in police fees.

A double room in a four-star hotel in the Croatian holiday destination Split during the first week of August currently costs about the same amount!
