Magical illuminated paths in the canton

During the Advent season, six Zug municipalities invite you to spend pleasant hours on an illuminated path. Here is some information about the six romantic walks in the Advent season.

The pre-Christmas season is a time for contemplation and meetings. A time of peace and anticipation. A walk on an illuminated pathway (Lichterweg) is a part of Advent for many people. There will be six pathways to choose from in the canton of Zug this year, and will be are open from the end of November to the beginning of January. Different highlights invite you to linger at the different locations.

Hünenberg
The Hünenberg Lichterweg (illuminated path) leads from the Zentrumstrasse in the village centre to Hünenberg See. The pathway invites you to enjoy a wonderful view over Lake Zug from 25 November to the 6 of January. Halfway along the path, the municipality invites you to an aperitif. On 15 December, the Municipal Workshop (Werkdienst) team will serve alcohol-free punch and mulled wine in the middle of the "Hubel" orchard.

Cham
From this year, the Lichterweg in Cham will lead through the Villette Park From the first Sunday of Advent to 26 December, you are invited to take a walk by candlelight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Around 160 lanterns light up every evening along the path through the park.

Baar
The lights go on at the Lichterweg Baarfrom the evening of 25 November. All along the one-and-a-half-kilometre circular route around the Kapelle Heiligkreuz (Chapel of the Holy Cross), a varied supporting programme will inspire families and children. On 29 November, for example, children from the International School Baar will sing Christmas carols in the Heiligkreuz chapel. Among other occasions, Maria Greco will enchant listeners with "Gschichte am Füür" (stories by the fireside) at the Waldsofa on 11 December, before the illuminated path is closed again on the 8 January

In the snow, a walk of lights is the most beautiful. The picture shows the path of lights in Unterägeri, decorated with small Christmas trees.

Unterägeri
In Ägeri, 306 lanterns will burn on the three-kilometre path of lights  from 26 November to the first of January. The natural candlelight creates a very special atmosphere. The trail starts at the Allmendkappelle and the lanterns lead visitors back to the village. On weekends the Laternenstübli welcomes walkers with warm drinks and light refreshments at two thirds of the way around the path.

Walchwil
From the first Advent to the 6 January
, Advent lights will also burn in Walchwil. The trail is illuminated daily from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, and on weekends until 9 pm. The approximately 800-metre-long walk leads from the Antoniuskapelle to the Zipfli-Stübli, where walkers are welcomed every Wednesday to Sunday with hot drinks, warm soup and fondue.

“Walchwil leuchtet” (Walchwil shines)
Another illuminated path, organised by the Walchwil school, will lead through the village in Walchwil between 6 pm and 7.30 pm on 17 November. Works of art by kindergarten and school children will thereby be exhibited.

Zugerberg
From the 11 December to 8 January
, a one-kilometre-long Lichterweg on the Zugerberg will lead from the mountain station to the Zugiblubbi House, where an illuminated nativity scene awaits the walkers. During this time, the Zugerbergbahn will run every quarter of an hour in the evening. People who prefer to walk on illuminated paths through the snow will probably have their best chance on the Zugerberg!
