Märlisunntig is just around the corner
Märlisunntig always takes place in Zug on the second Advent, and that will be the 8th December this year. Visitors can thereby find a total of 31 storytelling parlours in the historic old town of Zug from 1.30 pm to 6 pm on the coming Sunday.
At the traditional ‘Märlisunntig’ (fairy tale Sunday), storytellers await young and old guests and take them to different fairy-tale worlds. Admission is free, but those who wish can purchase a badge. Magicians, fakirs, clowns, jugglers and many other artists are out and about in the town, including ‘Samichlaus’ (Saint Nicholas) with his entourage.
Various non-profit organisations will be offering their goods at the bazaar on the Landgemeindeplatz, and there will also be fairytale readings, a children's railway, a petting zoo and barrel-organ music.

At 5.30 pm, the traditional ‘Samichlaus’ accompaniment of Infulträger (mitre-shaped illuminated displays), Trychler (traditional cow bell ringers) and Geisselchlöpfer (whips to scare away evil spirits), together with various fairy tale characters, will process from the Casino Zug Theatre to the Landsgemeindeplatz, where the Märlisunntig will end with a small firework display.
Around 8,000 people attend the event every year. The old town of Zug is traffic-free during this time, with only horse-drawn carriages moving about. To avoid congestion, the public are kindly asked to travel to the Märlisunntig by public transport.
