Local artists present their extraordinary creations
Textiles and ceramics, small pieces of furniture and jewellery: the products of local artists are presented to the public at the ‘Auszug’ design fair, which is being held in the Chollerhalle in Zug this year, - with a focus on new exhibitors.
Anyone who is interested in good design and fresh ideas can look forward to seeing what established and young creatives from Zug and the region will be showing this weekend. And, after 15 years, a number of things are new at the ‘Auszug’ trade fair: the location is now the Chollerhalle, instead of the Shedhalle, the organising team now consists of Caroline Flueler (President), Kerstin Staub, Tonja Amstad and Ruedi Hotz, and the visual identity has also been changed.
What's more, this year the fair is starting a day earlier, in order to make the necessary huge effort worthwhile. Textile designer Caroline Flueler from Zug has been an exhibitor in the past. That is also the case this year, but, from April of this year, she has been the president of the new Auszug association (Verein), a legal form that she considers important.
‘After 15 years, we wanted to try something new as a team. When we wanted to finalise the date last year, there was a lot of uncertainty about the Shedhalle. That's why we looked at various other locations, and finally decided in favour of the Chollerhalle, as it is slightly larger than the Shedhalle and can be used more flexibly.’ She also considers the location near the S-Bahn to be ideal, and is also pleased about the financial contributions from the public sector.

The 28 exhibitors will be presenting and selling local design products and applied art from the 28th November. The fair is a platform for labels that are produced in Zug, whose creators live here or who otherwise have a connection to the canton.
There was an adjudication beforehand
You had to apply to exhibit, as there was an adjudication beforehand,. Caroline Flueler added: ‘We were able to choose the exhibitors, as the space is limited. We are satisfied with the number of participants. An exciting selection was made, with a mix of new and old and from different sectors.’
For example, candlesticks and wooden cars by Noon & Hobbl, photographs by Alexandra Wey, outdoor and indoor fashion, gold and other creations by goldsmith André Schweiger and Frantastic jewellery, as well as chic clothing by Priska Waller. Mirjam Roosdorp, who designs and sews new skirts from textile remnants, has been taking part in the fair for around ten years. ‘I was part of the organising committee until last year,’ she says.
Textiles and ceramics
A new item of clothing can be spiced up with matching accessories on site, for example with Caroline Flueler's fine ties and scarves. The ceramists from I'm Ceramics and Ton-ja will be presenting their beautifully designed new products.
Original glass bowls will be on show from the Con Sol glass workshop. And Happy Trays from Alosen will be bringing cheerful trays made of birch wood and folding side tables. There is also much more to discover at the other stands - including for the home.
In addition to familiar names, there are also new faces and labels this year. Three exhibition spaces are reserved for newcomers: jewellery designer Ursina Caviezel, ceramicist Elena Gilli and Sara Liz Marti and Nadja Zürcher, who run a clothing sharing project with Common Goods.
A look at the creative process
It is certainly also interesting that visitors to the gallery are given some food for thought about the creative process that goes into every product. Small posters show enigmatic sentences: ‘Is design gender-neutral?’ And on the white and black tiled toilet, the question: ‘How black on white is design?’ triggers general amusement. The stands and bar offer delicious food and fine drinks.
