Latest regional figures regarding Corona infections

Two more people died from corona infection in Central Switzerland from Monday to Tuesday. There was one fatality in each of the cantons of  Schwyz  and  Zug. So far, a total of 47 people have died of the lung disease in the six cantons.

The canton of Schwyz  has had 16 deaths. This is followed by Lucerne (15), Zug  (8), Uri  (5) and Nidwalden (3). Obwalden has not yet recorded any deaths.

The number of infections in Central Switzerland increased by 15, to 1,348, in one day. Lucerne  has registered 643 infections (+10), Schwyz  276 (+4) and Zug  176 (+1). There were no changes in Uri  (78), Obwalden (67) and Nidwalden(108).

The canton of Lucerne also announced its bed capacity on Tuesday. There are 507 spatially-separated beds available for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Of these, 35 are occupied. 6 corona patients are in intensive care.

In total, the canton of Lucerne has 1,575 hospital beds in the four acute hospitals (the Cantonal Hospital, Hirslanden St. Anna, SPZ Nottwil and Klinik Sonnmatt). Of these, 748 are occupied, and 37 of the 77 intensive care places are also occupied.

Four of the ten intensive beds at the Cantonal Hospital in Zug are currently occupied by Covid-19 patients, three of whom are being ventilated. A total of eight ventilators are available. In addition, there are also four other confirmed and three unconfirmed cases at the hospital. The director of the Zug Cantonal Hospital, Matthias Winistörfer, says that the peak of the infections was passed ten days ago, when a total of nine patients were being artificially ventilated.

In order to take the pressure off the cantonal hospital and the Hirslanden Andreas Clinic in the canton of Zug, Corona patients will also be cared for in a separate department at the Adelheid rehabilitation clinic (Rehaklinik Adelheid) in Unterägeri. These are patients who no longer need intensive medical care.
