Tips for more safety on the way home
- Don't walk on your own – arrange to go home together with a friend.
- It’s worth taking a detour to use a well-lit, busy and well-known route.
- Don’t wear headphones. In unsafe situations, it's important to be able to hear the noises in your surroundings.
- Trust in your gut feeling. If you have a bad feeling, or sense that you are being followed, don't just tell yourself everything is OK, but react.
- Make a phone call to a friend while on the way home. If there’s no-one you can call, make a fake phone call.
- If you are attacked or cornered, shout loudly for help and try to escape.
- Attract the attention of passers-by. If there is no-one near you, look for a publicly-accessible building or ring anyone’s doorbell if you feel in danger.
- Alert the police immediately, but at the latest when you are safe.
