Hospitals and doctor's surgeries carrying out all treatments again

Due to the decreasing number of cases and the relaxation of the federal measures, all treatments and procedures can now be carried out again without an increased risk of infection for the patients.

The corona pandemic has had very different effects on the individual areas of health care: the acute hospitals have worked together to prepare themselves for the influx of Covid-19 patients, GP practices have carried out the tests, and other service providers have had to postpone non-urgent treatments. In a statement, the Zug Health Directorate now states that some normalisation has now taken place in all areas, while comprehensive protection measures remain in place throughout the health sector.

Hospitals carrying out all treatments again
The two acute hospitals in the canton, the Zug Cantonal Hospital in Baar and the Hirslanden Andreas-Clinic in Cham, agreed to work closely together to cope with the pandemic. This agreement remains in force in order to be able to react quickly in the event of an increase in cases.

From the end of April, however, all standard  treatments and procedures can also be carried out in both clinics. There is no reason for patients to postpone planned procedures or treatments any longer. The appropriate protection concepts will minimise the risk of infection with the virus. "From the patient's point of view, it is important that the entire medical service is available once again. The clinics in the canton of Zug are ready for this," emphasizes Health Director Martin Pfister.

Protective measures implement in doctor's practices
Family doctors have made a very important contribution to the fight against coronavirus in the canton of Zug. For example, they carried out a large part of the Corona tests in the canton of Zug, and will continue to carry out this task. All other treatments can now be carried out at the same time without an increased risk of infection, however. "The practices have taken the appropriate protective measures, for example, ensuring that the minimum social distance in the waiting rooms and when carrying out the necessary physical examinations," says cantonal physician Rudolf Hauri in the communication.

Medical practices in the field of specialised care, such as eye or ENT practices, are again treating all patients. Here, too, deferred consultations or treatments can be carried out without any risk to the patients.

The last few months have been an exceptional situation for all those involved in the health care sector, the Health Directorate continues. Thanks to the flexibility and uncomplicated cooperation of all those involved, the situation in the canton of Zug has been relatively well managed. "My thanks go once again to all employees in hospitals, medical practices, pharmacies and Spitex for their active efforts," says Martin Pfister.
