Hiker accident on the Wildspitz

An alarm sounded on the Wildspitz mountain last Thursday evening, and an injured hiker had to be rescued by helicopter using an aerial winch. The Rega also made several landings in Schwyz for the operation.
 

In response to an inquiry by the "Boten" newspaper, Corina Zellweger, the media spokesperson for the Air Rescue Service (Rettungsflugwacht), confirmed that an alarm was received via the Rega app after 8 pm last Thursday evening. A person had sustained injuries of an unknown degree in a fall on the Wildspitz, and was unable to continue on his own.

Thanks to the geographical coordinates of the Rega app, it was possible to quickly and precisely locate the patient. He had fallen below the peak of the Wildspitz mountain in the canton of Zug.

The rescue helicopter from Rega's Erstfeld base immediately took off. After a brief aerial reconnaissance, an emergency doctor was first dispatched, followed by a rescue specialist helicopter from the Swiss Alpine Rescue (Alpinen Rettung Schweiz). The first phase involved securing the mountaineer in the difficult terrain and preparing him for rescue.

The injured person was then flown out using the rescue hoist, and was transported to a hospital. The operation was carried out across cantons, with the Rega helicopter flying to hospital in Schwyz, among other locations, and to an intermediate landing site in Kaltbach for the transfer of equipment.
