Green light for traffic relief of town centre

The Federal Court has confirmed the legality of the building permit for the Cham-Hünenberg bypass and has dismissed the last remaining objection. The building law requirements for the realisation of the road project have thereby been met.

Following the new judgment of the Federal Court (Bundesgericht) confirming the legality of the building permit for the Cham-Hünenberg bypass (UCH), the building law conditions for the realisation of the UCH bypass are now fulfilled, according to the press release of the Construction Directorate (Baudirektion),. "Following the already established North Entry road (Nordzufahrt) to the city of Zug and the Zug/Baar Tangente (expressway), which will be put into operation this year, the third central element of the overall transport concept of the canton of Zug can now be realised," says construction director Florian Weber. "However, the Cham-Hünenberg bypass is not only to be considered in a larger context," he stresses. "It brings several significant improvements for the centre of Cham. The resulting relief from individual motorised transport will significantly increase the quality of life and residence, ‘slow traffic’ will be able circulate more easily and safely, and public transport will be more punctual."

Steps still to be realised
According to the press release, preparatory work is expected to begin next year, before the actual construction and implementation work begins in 2023. The Cham-Hünenberg bypass is scheduled to open in 2027. Working together with the planners, the Construction Directorate will prepare the detailed schedule in the coming weeks.
