Glarus files complaint against Zug company

The canton of Glarus and its hospital are taking legal action against a mask supplier. The company is said to have supplied unsafe and fake masks at the beginning of the corona pandemic.

At the beginning of the Corona pandemic, Glarus and his cantonal hospital ordered tens of thousands of protective masks from the Zug-based company Emix Trading. The hospital paid CHF 7.90 per unit, and the canton paid as much as CHF 9.90. But last March, the "Rundschau" of SRF TV reported that the FFP2 masks supplied by the Zug start-up were defective. In concrete terms, the required safety certificates had been falsified and the protective effect of the masks was completely insufficient.

The canton and its hospital are now reacting. As they announced on Monday, they have filed criminal charges with the Zurich Public Prosecutor's Office against a trading company and against unknown persons. The allegation: fraud, usury and endangerment of life. Because questions remained unanswered by the previous investigations, the canton and its cantonal hospital have demanded that the criminal justice system should now clarify them.. According to the television report, negotiations with the company were broken off and further investigations were carried out. Their results have now led to the criminal complaint.

Emix Trading Gmbh, which media reports indicate must be the involved suppler, was founded in Uster ZH in 2016, and is now domiciled in Zug. The company is controlled by two now 23-year-olds and, as a co-owner, a Zurich business lawyer. Despite all the criticism, the young entrepreneurs claim to have provided valuable services through their imports of protective material during the Corona crisis.

Emix Trading thereby also sold several million masks to the federal government. Last March, however, the company made an offer to the federal government to replace all the masks that were still in storage with new ones, voluntarily and free of charge. According to the announcement, the canton of Glarus was also able to return some of the masks at the cost price or to exchange them for better quality masks.
