Four speed cameras, automatic speed reduction
The federal government has installed a new measuring system between Lucerne and the Rütihof on the A14 motorway.
Traffic jams are a daily occurrence on the A14 motorway between Lucerne and Zug, and rear-end collisions occur time and again. This new system will automatically adjust the indicated speed to the volume of traffic. This should result in less congestion and fewer accidents.
Less congestion?
The Federal Roads Office (Bundesamt für Strassen) now wants to counteract this, as the ‘PilatusToday’ news portal reports. A new system will monitor the flow of traffic and automatically adjust the indicated speed limit. The system is currently being tested.

In future, the computer will automatically decide how fast vehicles are allowed to drive on the section of the A14 motorway between the Rotsee and the Rütihof junctions. The aim is to reduce congestion and thereby accidents. The system is due to go into operation in 2025.
This also includes four new speed cameras - two in each direction. The speed cameras will also be automatically adjusted to the indicated speed limit. Can the police use them to make money in the future? Police spokesman Christian Bertschi says ‘no’: all four speed cameras will never be in operation at the same time. But is that just a matter of time?
