Flames and smoke: attic apartment no longer habitable after fire

On Tuesday evening shortly after 7 pm, several reports were received at the operational control centre of the Zug police that there was a fire in an apartment building on the Rigistrasse in Baar. When the emergency services arrived at the scene, they found fire and heavy smoke in the attic apartment.

The Baar fire brigade immediately started fire-fighting and moved inside the building with breathing protection. The aerial rescue truck was brought into position at the same time. Thanks to the rapid deployment, it was possible to prevent the flames from spreading to other apartments, and to extinguish the fire.

The four-member family, who were in the affected apartment when the fire broke out, and the other residents of the apartment building were able to bring themselves to safety. One of the residents, a 55-year-old man, tried to extinguish the flames before the rescuers arrived. He had to be taken to hospital with suspected smoke poisoning, but has been able to leave hospital in the meantime. Another 10 people were checked on-site by the staff of the Zug rescue service.

The emergency services were quickly on the scene

The fire was quickly extinguished.

The attic apartment was badly affected by the fire, and is no longer habitable. The municipality of Baar is now looking for a replacement accommodation for the family. The remaining residents of the apartment building were able to return to their homes after the firefighting operation.
