First ZVB electric bus now in regular service

Despite the grandiose announcements by the SBB, travelling through Zug without a driver is still only a project. Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe (Zugerland Transport Company) are not following this line with their electric bus. From the start of regular operation yesterday, the ZVB electric bus is running on line 13 in the early morning light - from Zug train station to Obersack. As announced by the ZVB media spokeswoman Karin Fröhlich, it is planned to use the bus from Monday to Friday in the morning.

At the presentation of the Mercedes E-Citaro, it was stated said that the batteries would last an average of six hours. The bus consumes electricity when used on the line in the Obersack, but recovers this on the way back, through a process called recuperation. This also applies in the case of railway trains running on electrified routes.

For ZVB's head of operations, Cyrill Weber, the switch from diesel to electric power is "a big step towards electric mobility" and has the quality of “a milestone". The ZVB is currently designing a roadmap of the future.
