Fire causes severe damage to a detached house

The Zug Police Operations Centre received a report of a fire in a detached house on the Rossmatt in Neuheim at 4.30 pm on Wednesday afternoon

The Neuheim and Menzingen fire brigades and the Zug main fire brigade (FFZ: Freiwillige Feuerwehr Zug) ) were immediately deployed to the scene.

When the first firefighters arrived, they discovered flames in the kitchen area and heavy smoke, according to the Zug law enforcement authorities. Breathing apparatus teams managed to bring the fire under control, and finally extinguished it completely. The localised pockets of embers were then removed to prevent the fire from flaring up again. The fire brigade the cleared the house of smoke.

According to the police, there were three people in the building at the time the fire broke out, but they were able to leave the house on their own. A 40-year-old woman suffered slight smoke inhalation while trying to extinguish the fire, and received medical treatment on site from the Zug Rescue Service. Two cats were also rescued from the house by members of the fire brigade.

The house was severely damaged by the smoke and is currently no longer habitable. The damage to property cannot yet be quantified, but is likely to be considerable. The cause of the fire is still unclear and is being investigated by the Forensic Service of the Zug Police.
