Fire and smoke in a farmhouse

A fire broke out in a farmhouse in Walchwil on Monday evening (30 November 2020). Thanks to the rapid efforts of the fire brigade, more serious damage was prevented, and no-one was injured.

Shortly before 22:00, on Monday evening, 30th November, smoke detectors sounded a warning in a farmhouse on the Tschachenweg in the municipality of Walchwil. At almost the same time, the two residents noticed smoke coming from a wall in the living room. They thereby immediately left the property and alerted the emergency services.

The Walchwil Fire Brigade was quickly on the scene with first responders, and was able to extinguish the flames in the living room. In order to deal with any further embers, the ceiling had to be ripped open in the area of the fire, and the firefighters also had to install a longer feeder line in order to obtain a reliable supply of water. Thanks to their rapid deployment, it was possible to prevent the flames from spreading and causing more damage.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and the exact amount of damage cannot yet be quantified. According to the investigation so far by the forensic service of the Zuger Police, the radiant heat of the tiled stove may have caused the fire.

About 50 members of the Walchwil Fire Brigade, as well as employees of the Zug Ambulance Service and the Zug Police were on duty.
