Fake quarantine letters in circulation

Fake letters appear to be circulating In the canton of Zug, informing citizens that they have to go into quarantine. Anyone who has received one of these letters should report it.

A number of people in Zug have contacted the Health Department (Gesundheitsdirektion) in recent days, according to a statement, as they have been informed by letter about an ordered quarantine. According to the letter, this was necessary because the persons concerned had been in contact with a person infected with the corona virus. These letters are clearly forgeries, however. The Health Directorate had taken legal action and made a report to the Zug police.

Persons who have received letters are asked to contact the Corona Information Centre, even if there is only a mere suspicion: the number is 041 728 39 09 or auskunft.corona@zg.ch. In this way, the extent of the spread of the counterfeiting can be estimated. "We are extremely sorry that the people of Zug are being unsettled by such actions during this challenging time," said Health Director Martin Pfister in a statement.

Contact tracing via phone
The contact tracing team of the Cantonal Office of Health always contacts all persons who have to go into quarantine by telephone. Only if these contact persons cannot be reached by telephone, even after several attempts, are e-mails or letters also sent to them in exceptional cases. In these letters, the persons concerned are informed of the quarantine order, and are asked to contact the contact tracing department by telephone.

"There is no question of us ordering an incisive measure such as quarantine by letter without asking for a personal contact," cantonal doctor Rudolf Hauri is quoted as saying. "In the last few months, we have been able to reach everyone by phone or e-mail, and have not sent out a single letter."
