EVZ ice hockey women win top match

The EV Zug ice hockey women's team defeated their close rivals HC Davos 1:0 in the Bossard Arena on Saturday in Zug. They have thereby widened the distance between themselves and the team from Graubünden to 9 points.

With their current 59 points, the EVZ women’s team remains in second place in the Women's League, one point behind the leader SC Bern Women, who won their home match against the ZSC Lions 5: 2 on Sunday. This position entitles the EVZ to a direct place in the semi-finals. HC Davos is in third place, with 50 points.

Captain Lara Stalder scored the goal on a powerplay (46th minute) on Saturday evening, in front of more than 1,600 fans in the Bossard Arena. Goalie Evelina Mäkinen also achieved a shutout.

Her team rival Chiara Pfosi also kept the goal clean in the 2:0 home win against SC Langenthal last Tuesday. Two wins to nil in a row is a first for EVZ in the top division. The goals on Tuesday were scored by Jael Manetsch in the first third and Rahel Enzler in the final third.

HC Davos and SC Bern both won their games on Sunday, meaning that EV Zug only need a single point to defend their 2nd place in the table.

Because the results of the head-to-head meetings count in the event of a tie, the EV Zug have thereby already secured qualification for the semi-finals with their third win in their fourth encounter against HC Davos. The most HC Davos can now do is draw level in the remaining rounds if EV Zug fail to win a single point in their last 2 games.

The next league match for the EVZ Women is an away game against HC Fribourg-Gotteron (HCFG) in the BCF Arena in Fribourg, from 3:30 pm on Saturday, 22nd February.
As a reminder, the EVZ women won 5:3 in their last meeting, the cup final on 26th January.

Their final match of the current 28 match league season will also be played away, against the SC Langenthal (SCLF) in the Eishalle Campus in Huttwil from 5:30 pm on Sunday, 23rd February. The SCLF are currently in the last place in the Women’s league!
