EV Zug women show strong spirit against ZSC Lions

The EV Zug women's ice hockey team celebrated a 2-1 away victory in extra time against the ZSC Lions in the Women's League on Thursday evening in the Swiss Life Arena in Altstetten.

A win had seemed unlikely for a long time, with the Zurich team leading until just before the end, after Zoe Mächler opened the scoring in the 16th minute of the first session. The EVZ actually controlled the game, but simply couldn't find the back of the net. The Lions managed to break away with quick counterattacks, creating more dangerous scoring opportunities than Zug.

But, at last, Noemi Neubauerova scored the equaliser in the third session (56th minute; 1-1), and Ivana Wey then scored the winning goal in extra time (61st minute; 1-2) to turn the game around and avert defeat at the last minute.

Rahel Enzler (21), Annika Fazokas (12) and Noemi Neubauerova (81) celebrate the overtime winner.
