Empira wants to buy former Crypto site
The site of the former Crypto company in Steinhausen is about to change hands.
According to the official Zug Gazette (Amtsblatt), EMP Areal 1 AG, a subsidiary of the Zug-based Empira Group, is planning to purchase the Crypto site in Steinhausen, as reported by the Zentralplus online portal. This means that a company with a global real estate presence and links to the Partners Group is set to take over the development of the site.
Around 200 apartments, club rooms and a nursery are to be built on the site of the former Crypto AG, with construction scheduled to start in 2025/26.

The site is currently owned by Areal Steinhausen Zug AG, and it was stated at the municipal assembly (Gemeindeversammlung) in June that the company was looking for a buyer. The municipality had specified that any development must include a double kindergarten and rooms for local clubs.
While the municipality is hoping for new living space, critics fear rising rents – because, according to its own statements, Empira is focusing on ‘higher returns through vertical integration’.
