Doctor did not wear face mask at work - sacked!

After a check-up at a Zug doctor's practice by the cantonal medical service, a doctor has been dismissed without notice. In the meantime, she sees this as a pawn sacrifice.

The 20 minutes newspaper has reported that a doctor has been dismissed without notice by a doctor's practice in Zug. An employee of the practice told 20 Minutes: "A patient complained that she (the doctor) had not worn a face mask while working. As a result, the doctor was dismissed without notice."

Aurel Köpfli from the Zug Health Directorate confirmed to 20 Minutes that, following a tip from the local population, a check had been carried out in this practice. It turned out that not all employees were complying with the obligation to wear a face mask. The practice subsequently informed the Health Directorate of changes is its personnel.

The dismissal of the doctor was also confirmed by the head of the practice. According to him, however, the (one-off case of ) non-wearing of a protective mask was not the only reason for the dismissal. It was then decided in a mutual discussion that it would be better for all parties concerned if the doctor did not continue with her job at the practice. The doctor and the practice then "separated in a friendly and consensual way," reported the practice manager to 20 minutes.

The dismissed doctor sees it differently. According  to 20 minutes, she said that "I only signed the termination because I was tired after a long day's work without breaks, and was mentally no longer at my best." It is not yet clear what will she will do next. Due to the large number of patients still being treated by her, the doctor plans to open her own practice.
