Delays in the evaluation of Corona tests

The smear tests taken in the test centres at the Zug Cantonal Hospital and the Andreas Klinik Cham are processed in the same external laboratory. Due to increasing case numbers, there is now a capacity bottleneck.

According to a joint press release, well over 300 tests per day are currently being carried out in the test centres of the Zug Cantonal Hospital in Baar and the Hirslanden Andreas Klinik in Cham. The samples from the two Zug test centres are processed in the same external laboratory, and the rapidly increasing demand for Corona tests has now led to a capacity bottleneck for the laboratory partner. The evaluation of the smears therefore currently takes longer than the usual 24 to 48 hours. Both hospitals are already working on a joint solution, so that all the tests can be evaluated within the normal deadline over the course of the next week.

The two hospitals have asked persons who have been recently tested to excuse the longer waiting times for the test results, and not to call the test centres. The results will be announced by the laboratory as soon as the processing is complete.

People with Covid-19 symptoms are asked to follow the FOPH guidelines, i.e. to isolate themselves at home and to avoid contact with others until the result of the Corona test is available.

Increase in the testing capacity at the Andreas Klinik
The Andreas Klinik is once again increasing the test capacities for corona smears. The tests can now also be carried out on Saturday and Sunday between 12 and 15:30, although an appointment is necessary for this. Appointments can be booked online under www.andreasklinik.ch/testcenter.

New online registration at the Zug Cantonal Hospital
From 19 October 2020, appointments for a coronavirus test can also be booked online under www.zgks.ch/testcenter. Testing without registration ("walk-in") is still possible, but there may be waiting times.
