Cyberattack on Zug headquarters of Belimed
The medical technology company Steelco Belimed, with headquarters in Zug, has been the victim of a cyberattack.
A criminal hacking group successfully infiltrated the restricted areas of the IT systems of Belimed Infection Control, and have copied some of the company's data, as the company recently reported. Other IT systems were not affected. The company thereby clarified that there was neither data encryption nor any disruption to the business operations of end customers.
All the necessary countermeasures were initiated immediately after the incident became known. The relevant authorities were also informed, and a criminal complaint has been filed. External IT security experts are now investigating the incident, and additional security measures have been implemented.

As reported by the Inside-IT trade magazine, there were already indications of a cyber incident at the company at the end of May. On the dark web, the "Inc Ransom" group claimed to have stolen approximately 1.5 terabytes of company data, and threatened to publish it. According to the report from Belimed, they didn’t give in to the extortion attempt. As the company explained to Inside-IT, its management based this decision on the standard recommendations of security authorities.
