Contributions from the City Corona Fund available

The tenants of commercial properties, cultural workers and sports clubs in the city of Zug can now apply for contributions from the Corona Fund of the City of Zug. The application forms are available on the homepage.

Now that the period for appeals and referenda has been passed, the way is clear for implementation of the Corona Fund. At its meeting on 2 June, the Grand Municipal Council (Grosse Gemeinderat) of the city of Zug decided to set up a Corona fund of CHF 10 million from the surplus income in 2019. In doing so, it created the basis for providing support to the tenants of urban commercial properties, cultural workers and sports clubs who have suffered demonstrable losses between March to June 2020 due to the Corona crisis.
According to the press release from the City of Zug, the corresponding application forms are available for download on www.stadtzug.ch/coronafonds.

The final amount of the contributions is expected to be determined by the Grand Municipal Council at its meeting on 27 October. In order to prepare the application in due time, the documents must be submitted by 18 August at the latest.

The City Corona Fund provides supporting measures, where necessary, in compliance with the federal-canton-municipality subsidiarity principle and in compliance with financial supporting measures. This may include financial waivers of municipal rents for restaurants and service establishments, of fees for the use of public land, or for the rental of public facilities where events could not be carried out. The principle of subsidiarity means that the urban Corona Fund will only come into play if the support from the Confederation and the canton is insufficient to cover the resulting shortfalls.
