CKW to carry out seismic measurements in the area

The CKW is taking the next step in its geothermal energy project in Inwil. From January onwards, the subsurface will be explored using seismic measurements.

The CKW (Centralschweizerischen Kraftwerke - Central Switzerland Power Stations) is planning a geothermal power plant in the Inwil area to produce renewable electricity and heat. According to a recent press release, the CKW will soon be carrying out large-scale passive seismic measurements in the region in order to better assess the subsurface and estimate the project's chances of success more accurately.

From 10th January, the necessary measuring instruments will be laid in the ground at numerous locations in the cantons of Lucerne, Aargau, Zug, Schwyz and Obwalden and Nidwalden, in consultation with the respective landowners. The exact dates of this work depend on the weather conditions. The measurements are expected to take eight weeks, according to the press release.
