Civil Weddings Now Possible in Two New Historic Rooms at Zug Castle
Starting next year, the Civil Registry Office for the Zug district will expand its civil wedding offerings to include two exceptional historic rooms in the Museum Burg Zug. This means couples will soon have six distinct locations to choose from for their ceremony—ranging from modern to historical, from understated to ceremonial.
Zug Castle is one of the city's most important landmarks and the oldest preserved non-religious building within the city limits. Originally a medieval seat of power and later home to influential Zug families, it has a long and eventful history. Since 1983, it has housed the historical museum of the city and canton of Zug—and beginning in 2026, it will also host two new venues for couples to tie the knot, as announced by the City of Zug.

The Atelier in the Attic and the Hediger Room
The new wedding spaces are located in two particularly striking parts of the castle. The Atelier in the attic, with its original roof truss from the late 15th century, offers a truly unique atmosphere and panoramic views of Zug’s old town, the Zytturm clock tower, Lake Zug, and the historic city wall.
The Hediger Room, created around 1890, reflects the legacy of the castle’s last private owner family. A highlight is the elaborately crafted tiled stove from the Keiser workshop, dating back to 1901. While the museum is open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the wedding rooms will be reserved exclusively for couples and their guests on select Fridays throughout the year.
Six Unique Venues for the Big Day
With the addition of these new spaces at Zug Castle, couples will have six wedding venues to choose from in total. In addition to the Atelier and the Hediger Room, options include the 24th floor of the Park Tower, the Gothic Hall and Baroque Council Chamber in the Old Town Hall, and a modern, minimalist room in the Stadthaus.
