City to erect fewer illuminated rotating advertising pillars than planned

It has been announced that the city is now to erect fewer illuminated rotating advertising pillars than initially planned.

Readers may have noticed that, over the past few days such pillars have been erected on Bahnhofsplatz, to the west of the Metalli centre and by the Uptown building.

As city councillor Urs Raschle explained, five were to have been erected but objections were raised to the other two sites, one on Industriestrasse and another in front of the Eichstätte fitness centre. “As this type of advertising is new to the city of Zug, we thought we would only erect them where no objections were raised,” he said.

At present the pillars erected neither rotate nor light up. It had been planned for the pillars to be powered by solar panels. However, while this would have provided enough electricity for them to light up, it was not enough to have them rotate, too. Now, as Fabian Kauter of the Neo Advertising AG company explained, they are to be connected to the mains.

Naturally, the idea behind the pillars is to bring in extra funding to the city’s coffers through the income they generate; and naturally, with only three erected rather than five, the income will be reduced accordingly, though it will still be higher than without them.

Raschle is now keen to find out how locals react to the pillars. If they do so in a positive way, then more will be erected in locations yet to be announced.
