City of Zug to fell 29 trees

29 trees are to be replaced in Zug during the winter tree care cycle. The city is thereby ensuring replacement trees at most locations.

Over the next few weeks, the city of Zug will cut down a total of 29 trees that are either diseased, dead, no longer stable or pose a safety risk. These include a 25-metre-high lime tree near the Siehbach bathing area and four chestnut trees near the Gottschalkenberg Restaurant. New, young trees will be planted at most of the sites and, in some cases, will be supplemented with additional trees, according to the report from the City of Zug.

Over the course of the next few years, around 800 new trees will be planted in the city of Zug, including those as part of building projects such as school buildings, the extension of the lakeside lido (Strandbad) on the Chamer Fussweg, the upgrading of the Brüggli recreation area, and road renovations and new road construction in Choller. Trees are the most effective way to improve the climate of a city. They reduce the heat in summer and filter dust out of the air, says the report.

An expert assessed all the trees in the city of Zug last year. 4,347 trees are owned by the city of Zug, plus thousands of trees owned by private owners. In the last five years alone, the city has taken over the care of about 350 additional trees, for example from new construction areas such as the extension of the Riedmatt school complex, the redesigned Gubelstrasse and from new properties such as the Zurlaubenhof.
