City council wants to host ice hockey games at the 2038 Olympic Games
The Zug city council has confirmed its intention to position the city of Zug as one of the venues for the ice hockey games at the planned 2038 Winter Olympics in Switzerland.
According to a statement issued by the City Council (Stadtrat), Zug is to be one of the two main venues, alongside Zurich. A total of ten teams with around 240 athletes and approximately 140 officials are expected to visit Zug for the Olympic games. The matches are to take place in the OYM Hall.

As part of Switzerland's bid, the host cities are expected to contribute financially. A total contribution of CHF 7.7 million is planned for the city of Zug, spread over 2028 to 2037 at CHF 770,000 per year.
According to the recent press release, the city council is aiming for a 50-50 cost sharing arrangement with the canton. With a 50 % contribution from the canton, the city's contribution would amount to around CHF 3.85 million.
Before the local political processes can even begin, however, a decision must be made at the federal level this year as to whether to bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2038.
