Central Swiss health workers protest

As part of the national week of protests, nursing staff are also going to the barricades in Central Switzerland: around 25 people gathered on Monday morning before the cantonal council meeting in Lucerne for a picket line demonstration. "Walks of Care" will take place in Lucerne and Zug on Tuesday evening.

According to Viviane Hösli, regional secretary of the VPOD Central Switzerland union (Verband des Personals öffentlicher Dienste = Association of Public Service Employees) on Thursday, people from all health sectors took part in the demonstration-

The professional association for nursing staff SBK and the trade unions Syna and VPOD in Central Switzerland joined forces to form the health alliance and to organise various actions. Nursing staff are calling for concrete measures to better manage the second wave of corona virus infections and to ensure high-quality care in the future. The Central Swiss Alliance calls for more rights at work, better working conditions and that the time required for changing clothes should be considered working time.

The alliance also underlines its demands in a petition to the central Swiss hospitals, which will be handed over to their employers in the course of November, the alliance writes in a press release. On Tuesday, two walks entitled "Walk of Care" will take place in Central Switzerland. They start at 5 p.m. at the Mühleplatz in Lucerne, and at the Commercial-Industrial Education Centre (GIBZ Geweblich-Industrielles Bildungszentrum) in Zug, and will last a maximum of one hour. A short speech by Yvonne Ribi, Managing Director of the Professional Association of Carers, is planned in Lucerne. A further picket line demonstration in Zug is planned for Thursday: at 7.45 a.m., the nursing staff will gather in front of the triple gymnasium (Dreifach-Turnhalle) of the cantonal school, where the cantonal parliament will meet from 8.30 a.m.
