Cardiology in the Zug Cantonal Hospital forms new links

From spring 2020, planned outpatient invasive cardiological examinations and treatments can be carried out at the Zug Cantonal Hospital, by working together with the Waid and Triemli hospitals in Zurich.

There has been a close partnership for some years between the Stadtspital (city hospital) Waid and Triemli hospitals and the Zug Cantonal Hospital in the field of invasive cardiology and cardiac surgery. As a result of the expanded collaboration, patients can now be examined and treated by experienced Triemli senior doctors at the Zug Cantonal Hospital from spring 2020, as the Zug Cantonal Hospital reports. “The partnership with the Stadtspital Waid and Triemli has proved to be very successful. We are pleased that, following the introduction of cardiac MRI examinations in January 2019, we can now also offer our patients planned outpatient cardiac catheter examinations and the corresponding treatments by experienced senior doctors from Triemli in Baar,” says Matthias Winistörfer, director at the Cantonal Hospital in Zug.

The heart specialists from the Triemli hospital will be able to carry out selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in invasive cardiology at the same quality level as in the Triemli hospital. Urgent emergency examinations and emergency treatments, such as those with an acute heart attack, will be carried out exclusively in Triemli, as before. "As a partner hospital and listed hospital in the field of invasive cardiology and cardiac surgery, it is important for us to be able to offer the population in the canton of Zug first-class outpatient care in the immediate vicinity of our home," explains Professor Franz Eberli, chief physician for cardiology at Stadtspital Waid and Triemli.

According to the media release, the Zug Cantonal Hospital offers a comprehensive range of examinations and treatments for cardiovascular diseases in the outpatient area. Thanks to the close cooperation with the specialists of the Stadtspital Waid and Triemli, patients not only benefit from the new invasive cardiology services on site, but also from the modern cardiac imaging procedures. Cardiac magnetic resonance examination (cardiac MRI) has been available in Baar since January 2019, and cardiac computed tomography (cardiac CT) will be added in the course of 2020.
