Car overturns on the Zugerstrasse

A spectacular traffic accident between Arth and Walchwil on Thursday morning left a 64-year-old man injured. The road had to be closed for a short time.

Several emergency vehicles from the cantonal police and an ambulance from the Schwyz rescue service were called to Arth at around 11.30 am on Thursday. A single-vehicle accident had occurred on the main road leading towards Arth.

According to the tyre marks, the car was travelling towards Walchwil when it veered off the road to the right in a slight left-hand bend, and then crashed into a wire fence. There, the vehicle hit the wooden posts and the rocky embankment, and rolled over. The car then came to a halt on the opposite lane, severely damaged and lying on its roof.

When the first responders arrived at the scene, the driver was sitting next to his wrecked car. The 64-year-old driver was awake and responsive. The ambulance service took the man, who had relatively minor injuries, to hospital. The Zugerstrasse had to be completely closed for a short time, but from midday onwards, traffic was able to pass the accident site in alternating directions.  A tow truck was already on site at 12.15 pm, and the road was clear again shortly afterwards.

The exact cause of the accident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation. According to initial findings, no other vehicle appears to have been involved in the accident.
