Car catches fire in morning traffic

A car caught fire while driving on the A14 motorway. No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is believed to be a technical defect.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m on Thursday morning (16 March 2023), a 27-year-old woman was driving on the A14 motorway towards the motorway end in Walterswil. Before reaching the Baar exit, she noticed smoke inside the vehicle, and therefore drove onto the hard shoulder and called the emergency services. When the emergency services arrived, the car was already on fire and had to be extinguished by the Zug city fire brigade (FFZ).

The driver, who was able to get out of the car in time, was uninjured, but the vehicle was totally damaged.

While the fire was being extinguished and the car was being removed, traffic had to be diverted past the scene of the fire in one lane. This led to traffic delays in the morning traffic. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but the ongoing investigation is focusing on a technical cause.

This was already the second car to catch fire on this stretch of the motorway this week. There was a similar incident at the end of the motorway on Tuesday afternoon (we reported on Wednesday)
