Canton now also offering vaccinations to the general population

The pace of the Corona vaccination programme in the canton of Zug is increasing, with more than 54,000 vaccinations having already been carried out. All persons over the age of 45 who have registered for a vaccination have now received a vaccination date, which is why the general population is now being approached.

The vaccination programme in the canton of Zug is on course, informs the cantonal health directorate. All those who want to be vaccinated are therefore now being invited to register online. The dates for the vaccinations are being provided in the order of registration., Vaccinations will also be carried out in pharmacies in the canton of Zug from 19 May.

The large amounts of vaccine that are available have increased the tempo of the vaccinations: more than 11,500 doses of vaccine have been administered from 1 May. "The number of daily vaccinations will continue to increase In May and June - we are well underway," says Health Director Martin Pfister.

Entire population invited to register
All persons over the age of 45 who have registered so far have now received a vaccination date. The first dates can therefore now be given to the general population aged 16 and over, with appointments being provided on the basis of the registration date. All those who want to vaccinate are invited to register for vaccination on www.corona-impfung-zug.ch.

"I am pleased that we can now start to vaccinate the entire population," says Pfister regarding this next step. The most vulnerable people, i.e. people in Zug over the age of 65, people with chronic illnesses and health care workers, are still receiving priority.

Vaccination of the general population takes time
With the opening of vaccination dates to all people in Zug over the age of 16, a very large population group can now be vaccinated. "We are already asking people to be patient. Even when the vaccination group of over 16-year-olds is activated, not all registered people will be able to receive an appointment at the same time," Pfister emphasizes.

From the very beginning, the canton of Zug has been using the existing doses of vaccination as quickly as possible, which has made it possible to maintain a high tempo, according to the statement from the Health Directorate. "The vaccines are of no use in the refrigerator. We therefore allocate the vaccination dates according to a very precise plan, so that all delivered doses can be administered to the population within days," explains Pfister.

Vaccinations to be available in pharmacies as a supplement
From Wednesday, 19 May, various pharmacies in the canton of Zug will also carry out Corona vaccinations. These will complement the existing offer of the vaccination centre and the participating medical practices. People who want to be vaccinated in a pharmacy are asked to contact their pharmacy directly. "This offer is a valuable addition that enables vaccination that is as close to home as possible," says Martin Pfister.

The hotline is available on 041 531 48 00 for assistance with registration. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Read more on: www.corona-impfung-zug.ch.
