Buvette on the Alpenquai

The new "Quai Pasa" refreshment bar (Buvette) will start operations on the Alpenquai at the beginning of summer holidays. The concept of the three young men from Zug convinced the city.

It will soon be possible to pleasantly end the day on the Alpenquai with a refreshing drink at a bar. The new bar, which will be called "Quai Pasa", will be open on the gravel square at Alpenquai from the second week of July. It hopes to become an attractive meeting place for young and old, inviting them to linger.

Four prospective tenants responded to the public request for tenders issued by the City of Zug for the operation of a ‘buvette’ on the Schützenmatt gravel area at the end of March. The concept of the three young men from Zug, Kevin Horat, Jonas Mehr and Tim Steffen, convinced the council. "Their broad know-how in the fields of gastronomy, sustainability and culture forms the optimal prerequisite for a successful operation," wrote the city of Zug in a statement.

The gastro concept of "Quai Pasa", which is derived from the Spanish expression ‘que pasa’, which means "what's going on", places a consistent reliance on seasonal products, local partner-companies and, where possible, innovative small businesses. The fair prices and the planned range of selected cultural offers is open to a mix of different cultures and generations, and thereby represents social added value. Another important part of the concept is the handling of waste. The operators want to generate as little waste as possible. Only re-usable systems are to be used for deliveries, as well as for the serving of food and beverages, and food waste is to be reduced to a minimum through a targeted offer and a "Es het solangs het" (it’s available as long as we have it, or ‘limited availability’) philosophy.

"The aim of the Summer Buvette is to revitalise the lakeside area by attracting a mixed audience, even in the late hours of the evening," continues the statement. The city of Zug is thereby drawing on the good experience achieved with the gastro concept at the Siehbach bathing area, which is also know as the “Männerbadi”. The operation of the kiosk had a positive effect on the public's sense of security, and has resulted in less littering and damage to property.

The location at Alpenquai will be allocated for one summer season for the time being,. If the expectations are met, the contract will be extended for a further four years.
