Burnt food activates smoke alarms:

There was much to do for firefighters and the emergency services in Cham lately. On Saturday morning, a charred toast in an retirement apartment resulted in the fire brigade being called out. The fire brigade then had to deploy a second time In the afternoon because of a burnt sausage. No one was injured.

Shortly after 8.30 a.m., smoke appeared in an old people's apartment in Cham due to a piece of toast becoming charred in a microwave oven, as the Zug police reported on Saturday evening. After a smoke alarm had sounded, the Zug police called in the Cham fire brigade, which was able to clear the smoke from the apartment. No one was injured.

A few hours later, at 2.35 p.m., a Spitex employee reported a strong build-up of smoke in an apartment in Niederwil near Cham. It turned out that the elderly resident had wanted to fry a sausage at noon, and had then fallen asleep in a chair.

The resident apparently did not notice the incident, although heavy smoke formed and a smoke alarm sounded again. The Spitex employee who visited the apartment alerted the fire brigade and rescued the sleeping man from the apartment. The Cham fire brigade cleared the smoke the apartment. The resident was not injured, and, apart from a charred pan and a burnt sausage, there was no damage to property.

The Cham fire brigade, the Zug ambulance service (RDZ) and the Zug police were involved in the incidents.
