Building slated for demolition goes up in flames

A fire broke out in a derelict building in Risch at around midday on Thursday. The cause of the fire is still unclear.

Fire alarm on the Küssnachterstrasse in Risch: at about 12.45 p.m. on Thursday, construction workers noticed a fire in the kitchen of a building that was to be demolished. The construction workers immediately alerted the Operations Control Centre of the Zug police. Members of the Risch and Hünenberg fire brigades were deployed, and were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

There was no-one in the building when the fire broke out, and nobody was injured. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the police forensic service has started investigations. While the fire was being extinguished, the Küssnachterstrasse and the Zugerstrasse had to be closed to traffic from the Stockeristrasse junction to the Meierskappelstrasse. The fire brigade thereby set up a diversion.
