Baarer Lichterweg: 1,500 lights at the foot of the Baarburg

On Friday, November 29, the Lichterweg Baar (illuminated path) around the Heiligkreuz chapel starts its sixth season: the Lichterweg Baar association has organised a colourful supporting program.

It has become a popular tradition: for the sixth time, about 1,500 LED lights will illuminate a 1.5-kilometre pathway walk in the Wishalde at the foot of the Baarburg during the Advent period. "The Baarer Lichterweg has become an indispensable part of Advent, and, together with the Christchindli-Märt or the nativity scene at the Pfarreiheim, is one of the marvellous traditions of Baar in the run-up to Christmas”, says the Lichterweg Baar association.

The illuminated path will open on Friday, November 29, at 7 pm. The small "Lights on!" celebration by Thomas Inglin is planned, at which the President of the Church Council will delight visitors with special Advent and Christmas stories. Everyone is then invited to the aperitif at the ‘Waldsofa’. The ‘Lichterweg’ will then be open every evening from dusk till 11 pm.

Small but select events will take place on selected days. On Monday, December 2 (5:30 pm), the kindergarten children of the International School will sing at the Heiligkreuz chapel and by the Waldsofa. On Wednesday, 4 December (6 pm, meeting point at the Wishalde car park), Samichlaus (Saint Nicholas) will pay a visit to the Lichterweg by the Waldsofa. Three days later (Saturday, December 7th, 6 pm), Maria Greco will tell fairy tales and stories for young and old at the Waldsofa, On Mariä Empfängnis (feast of the Immaculate Conception), December 8, the Reformed Church and the Catholic Parish invite you to an oecumenical walk around the Lichterweg (6:30 pm).

The public singing with choirmaster Erna Röllin at the Waldsofa has been of one of the highlights of the Lichterweg programme since the very beginning. This year, this event will take place on Wednesday, 11th December, at 6 pm. There will also be singing on Sunday, December 15: the Baar choir Vocal Emotions is giving a small concert at the Heiligkreuz chapel at 5.30 pm, followed by an aperitif. The flute class of Patricia Brogli will also play a few pieces at the chapel on Thursday, December 19 (6:30 pm). The supporting program will conclude with the walking legends by Maria Greco. The meeting point is on Sunday, December 22, at 6 pm at the Wishalde parking area.

Visitors to the Lichterweg are invited to linger by the fire barrel next to the Heiligkreuz chapel or to kindle a fire at the Waldsofa and enjoy the silence. The culinary side is not neglected, of course. Every Sunday, the Wishalde Schützenstube is open from 5 pm so you can warm up with food and drink. Registration is recommended for larger groups (for information, see www.wishalde.ch).

The association relies on donations to ensure the continuation of the Lichtweg. If you would like to support the Lichterweg, you can do so by the path itself. There is a donation box, and paying-in slips are also available. Contributions may also be transferred to the account CH16 0078 7785 1236 8750 2 (Zuger Kantonalbank, addressed to Verein Lichterweg Baar).
