Baar now has 25,000 inhabitants

20 years ago, Baar had 20,000 inhabitants. The municipality has now reached the next milestone, but still wants to maintain its village culture.

A few days ago, the population of the municipality of Baar permanently rose to more than 25,000 people. On Monday, 6 March, Jérémie Perrenoud was welcomed as Baar's 25,000th resident, and was presented with a restaurant voucher and a bouquet of flowers by the municipal president (Gemeindepräsident) Walter Lipp, and the municipal clerk (Gemeindeschreiber) Andrea Bertolosi, as the municipality of Baar writes in a statement. He recently moved from Zug to Baar with his partner Nikita Pearce and their nine-month-old daughter Amélie.

Identification as a village remains
Despite its steady growth, Baar wants to retain its character. "We are and will remain a village, not a city," says Walter Lipp, president of the municipality, in the press release. This is also symbolised by the fact that, despite having 25,000 inhabitants, there is still a municipal assembly (Gemeindeversammlung).

Whether it will take another 20 years to reach the 30,000 mark remains to be seen. In view of the numerous housing projects in Unterfeld Süd, Obermühle, Spinnerei, Vogelwinkel or Inwil, it is quite conceivable that the municipality of Baar will be able to celebrate another milestone, sooner rather than later.
