Apartment uninhabitable after fire

On Wednesday, January 8, at 1:15 p.m., the Operational Control Centre of the Zug police received a report that an apartment was on fire in an apartment building in Steinhausen. When the emergency services arrived at the property on the Industriestrasse, the apartment was found to be completely on fire, with huge amounts of smoke, according to the Zug police. The fire departments of Steinhausen and Cham, together with the Zug fire brigade (FFZ), immediately deployed several teams to extinguish the flames from both the outside and the inside, using respiratory protection. The FFZ also made use of an aerial turntable ladder. Working together, the firefighters successfully put out the fire.

The police in Zug report that the fire has now been extinguished, and that there were no injuries. Nobody was in the affected apartment at the time of the fire. As a precautionary measure, 20 residents were evacuated from the apartment building and from a neighbouring building, and were checked for any health impairment by the Zug emergency services. The Industriestrasse was closed to traffic while the fire brigades were in action.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and will be clarified by the forensic service of the Zug police. The damage to property is considerable, although the exact amount cannot be quantified yet. The apartment is no longer habitable, and the municipality of Steinhausen is looking for a replacement apartment for those affected.

Around 75 members of the fire brigades Steinhausen, Cham and the Zug fire brigade (FFZ), the fire brigade inspector and employees of the Zug emergency services and the Zug police were deployed.
