Admission to Cham Lido to be free
The fact that so many Cham voters had found their way into the Lorzensaal - 316 in number - made it clear from the outset: It would be a community meeting at which there would be a lot to discuss. Among other things, the motion of the SP (Socialist party) was discussed, in which it was demanded that, from 2020, entrance to the lido (lakeside beach) should be free for three years on a trial basis. The entrance fee for an adult is currently CHF 4, while young people pay CHF 2.
The local council supported this request. Municipal Councillor Rolf Ineichen (SVP = Swiss People’s Party) stated: "Free admission will benefit everyone in Cham, but especially families." Even the loss of about CHF 49,000 income per year is justifiable if the benefits are considered. Ineichen felt it was important to emphasize that the bathing operation would be continued. This means that a lifeguard will still be on duty there. "We hope that you have the courage to tackle this pilot project. All population layers in Cham will profit from it, "said Sylvia Imfeld of the SP Cham. The application was also welcomed by the CVP and the Critical Forum Cham.
The representatives of the Jungwacht Blauring (Jubla) Cham also approved the proposal because "we often lack the infrastructure for club activities". A free entrance to the lido would make things a lot easier. A Cham resident also emphasized that the lido is more than just a place for "Bädele", but rather offers many children the opportunity to learn how to swim in a protected environment.
The SVP, through President Hans Jörg Villiger, were critical of the application, asking: ”Free entry to the lido? Where will that lead? In our opinion, this is going in the wrong direction." The FDP also did not support the petition, as that they did not want to promote "this something-for-nothing mentality ", because "anything that costs nothing is worth nothing". The Cham voters finally approved free admission to the lido with only a few votes against.
The Municipal Assembly Cham was in favour of free admission to the outdoor pool.
This and another motion were brought ahead of the budget in the agenda, as they had an impact on investment. The voters ultimately approved that by a majority. As a result, taxes were cut by two percent: now they are 59 percent of the cantonal standard rate.
The 316 voters passed the following resolutions: minutes approved; the motion "cancellation of concession fee for water and electricity" was declared significant; Motion "Free entrance to the lakeside beach of Cham" was declared significant; Budget 2020 was approved; Financial Strategy 2020 to 2026 approved; Rehabilitation loan for Niederwil schoolhouse was approved; Refurbishment loan small schoolhouse Alpenblick was approved; Request for Lorzensaal was approved; bicycle-friendly motion was rejected Interpellation regarding the desired climate was answered; Climate motion the Krifo was not declared insignificant.
