Accommodation in Zug remains scarce

The Zug Cantonal Bank held the annual event "Trends in the Real Estate Market" at the Theatre Casino on Thursday, May 23, which was attended by around 110 real estate professionals. Patrick Schnorf, Partner and Head of Research at Wüest Partner, explained the latest figures on the Swiss and the Zug real estate market.

Although the number of vacant apartments throughout Switzerland continues to increase, a large number of rental apartments are still being built. This trend will continue this year. Despite high building activity, prices for condominiums remain stable; falling prices are to be expected for rental apartments.

Building with wood is the trend

The situation is different in the Canton of Zug: the number of approved housing units in construction is declining, and the already very low vacancy rate will not increase in 2019: living space remains scarce - demand high. Residential property will tend to rise in price, while rents remain stable. This will not change in the near future.

Building with wood has increased in importance - both in Switzerland and beyond the borders. Diener & Diener Architects, Basel and Berlin, were already using wood in their designs for projects at home and abroad in the eighties. Using examples from his work in recent years, Roger Diener showed that the use of wood opens new avenues in architectural design. From an ecological point of view, building with wood makes sense, Roger Diener is convinced.
