A specialty shop with authentic “Walliser-Titsch”

In spring, "Miis Wallis," the first store in the canton of Zug specializing in products from the Valais region, opened in the heart of Baar.

With his specialty store, Christian Schwery not only saved a modest wooden house next to the Lux cinema from demolition but also gave it a fresh start with a culinary offering. This was also a new beginning for Schwery, as he had never worked in this field before, not during his time in the USA, Ireland, or Cham, nor most recently in Baar.

“The products from Valais have always accompanied me,” Schwery said in an interview with the newspaper. Over the years, his ties to his home canton, especially to the villages in the Turtmann valley, have remained strong. The beer comes from Raron, the house sausage from Turtmann, and the delicious apricot jam from Agarn.

The store’s product range naturally includes Valais wines and spirits, as well as cheese for fondue and raclette. If needed, customers can also rent the appropriate fondue pot or raclette oven. Raclette is especially significant for Schwery, as every two weeks he hosts a raclette event at his store starting at 4 p.m.

Delight and Camaraderie

Besides offering fine products, “Miis Wallis” also focuses on fostering camaraderie and social interaction. The store is suitably furnished for this purpose, and Schwery proudly shared that he has already built a loyal customer base. This success can largely be attributed to his personal commitment and the dedication of his employees.

Among the staff are Jolanda and Marcel Locher, as well as Yvonne Reed-Leu, a native of Steinhausen. Thanks to her mother, Reed-Leu has long-standing ties to the “13-Star Canton” of Valais and speaks impeccable “Walliser-Titsch” (the Valais dialect). “It’s simply part of what we do here, because we want to be authentic,” she said with a smile, fully convinced of the quality and variety of the store’s offerings.

Good Neighborly Relations

Schwery’s connections to Valais also brought him into contact with Michi Radler, whose acquaintances helped him rent and redesign the location at Dorfstrasse 29a. Schwery noted that he has already developed good relationships with neighboring businesses, especially with “Blumen Baar.”

He added, “For me, it’s not about competition, but about working together to offer a broader range for consumers.” “Miis Wallis” is open every day except Sunday and Monday. Visitors can enjoy a fresh sandwich or a Valais platter during their lunch break.
