A new recycling centre is urgently needed

The municipality of Hünenberg is in need of a new waste recycling centre. A modification to the Regional Development Plan will make it possible to create a single,  centrally located recycling centre.

The Zug Cantonal Council has approved various amendments to the Regional Development Plan (Richtplan) – and the next changes are already on the horizon. These will be available for public review at the Department of Construction (Baudepartement) until Monday, 12th January, 2026, and can also be viewed online. Among other things, the amendments concern waste disposal in the municipality of Hünenberg.

Hünenberg is in need of a new recycling centre (Ökihof). The current recycling centre on the Zythus site will be closed due to the planned redevelopment of the area by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). And the recycling centre on the Zentrumsstrasse is already regularly overloaded, according to the spatial planning report from the Department of Construction. Furthermore, Hünenberg is among the municipalities in the canton where residents dispose of the most bulky waste. A single, centrally located recycling centre will therefore replace the two existing sites.

A plot of land in the Schlatt area, which is owned by the municipality, has emerged as the favourite location for the new site. According to the report, this location is easily accessible from both parts of the village and does not encroach on any residential or school areas. But making use of this site will require an amendment to the development plan: the area lies outside the settlement boundary line, which therefore needs to be shifted. From the canton's perspective, the fact that the new recycling centre will be built on 4,500 square metres of arable land is "acceptable", because it is an important project. And  the area will thereby also used will be utilised optimally.
