88 new infections recorded as of 12:20, Sunday May 3

For the first time since the lockdown, the number of new infections has fallen below 100 cases. 88 new cases have been reported In the last 24 hours, making a total of 29,905 laboratory-confirmed cases  in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) reported 112 additional cases on Saturday, and 119 on Friday.

The combined number of deaths related to the lung disease Covid-19 in all cantons together was 1,763, according to a census by the Keystone-SDA news agency on Sunday afternoon.

The FOPH put the death toll at 1,473. The Federal Office refers to the reports submitted by the laboratories and doctors as part of the reporting obligation up to Sunday morning. The number could therefore differ from the cantons' figures, writes the FOPH. There were 348 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

To date, a total of 280,220 tests have been carried out. According to the FOPH, 13 percent of these were positive. Some persons may have been tested several times. The FOPH recommends testing for all patients with Covid-19 symptoms. (sda)

14,000 Corona fines, 20,000 checks

The Sonntagszeitung newspaper has published the Corona balance sheet of the Swiss police to date. The figures are quite interesting: 20,000 checks have been carried out so far, with at least 14,000 fines imposed. Reports from the population have often preceded the checks. Nevertheless, in the case of more than 3,500 reports from the population, the police found no wrongdoing on the spot.

What was also noticeable was that the tone of the corresponding reports was often aggressive, such as an example from an internal police email: "I went into a green with my two dogs (which need to be exercised). What did I find? I was shocked to see overcrowded parking lots full of ZH and TG registrations, tribes of people enjoying  picnics and walks me. I wonder what it’ll be like at Easter, and where were the police?!?!”

By the way: The frontrunner is Winterthur. The Winterthur City Police received a total of 550 reports, compared to several hundred in the two Basels, Schaffhausen and Valais. The figures may be incomplete, however, as not all police agencies record the Corona incidents specifically.
