23-year-old man crashes stolen car

The Zug Police checked a man who was driving through Cham on Wednesday morning of last week. It turned out that he had a lot to answer for.

The Zug police stopped a man in Cham, and it turned out that he had committed quite a number of offences within a very short time. He had stolen a car, caused an accident and had then illegally left the scene of the accident (hit-and-run). The rapid drug test indicated that he had consumed both cocaine and cannabis, whereby the Public Prosecutor ordered a blood and urine test to be carried out at the hospital. In addition, it was found that he was only in possession of a learner's permit, and was not wearing the necessary visual aid (glasses or contact lenses). The 23-year-old Swiss citizen must now answer to the Public Prosecutor's Office, according to a recent report from the Zug Police.

The man was caught when two police security assistants checked the vehicle and driver in Cham on Wednesday morning of last week (17 May). They discovered that the car had been reported stolen. Further investigations revealed that it had been stolen in the canton of Fribourg on Monday, 15 May,  and had then been involved in a rear-end collision in the canton of Bern one day later.

During questioning, the man admitted to having stolen the car and to having caused the traffic accident. The stolen car will be returned to its rightful owner within the next few days.
