An 18-year-old driver had to be taken to hospital for treatment to injuries he sustained after crashing into the rear of a coach on the A4 motorway late on Saturday evening.

The incident happened at 11.30pm near Hünenberg as both the car the 18-year-old was driving and the coach were heading in the Zurich direction. The young driver admitted to police he had momentarily nodded off at the wheel and duly had his licence confiscated.

Damage to both vehicles was considerable, amounting to several thousands of francs. Furthermore, a 200-300-metre stretch of the motorway was left covered in debris as well as motor oil, which took five and a half hours to be cleared up.

In a separate road traffic incident last Friday, a cyclist suffered serious head injuries after colliding with a minibus.

This incident occurred shortly before 2.45pm on Zugerstrasse in the municipality of Cham as the driver of the minibus prepared to turn left into Schmiedstrasse but failed to notice an approaching cyclist.

In the ensuing collision, the 45-year-old cyclist, who was on a racing bike and not wearing a helmet, was hurled against the (blue and white) bonnet of the minibus (photograph), leading to his sustaining serious head injuries, as mentioned.

He was duly taken to hospital for treatment.
