ZVB with 40 passengers on board in head-on crash with car

A car crashed head-on into a bus of the ZVB company early on Thursday morning.

The 18-year-old driver of the car was slightly injured with another 18-year-old, one of 40 passengers on the bus, subsequently seeking medical attention.

The incident happened shortly before 7 am on what is known as the Cantonal Road S between Moosrank and Allenwinden. It was as the young driver of the car was heading uphill that, for reasons not yet known, he veered onto the wrong side of the road leading him to crash head-on into the bus.

Fortunately, other than the aforementioned person who did not feel too well after the incident, none of the bus passengers was injured, though as can be seen from the photographs, damage was considerable, the car being written-off.

The young driver, who was on probation having passed his driving test only recently, had his licence confiscated on the spot before being taken to hospital. A replacement bus was summoned to enable passengers on the damaged bus to continue their journey.

Slight congestion built upon the road as an alternating one-way traffic flow had to be introduced during the clearing-up operation at what is usually a busy time.
