Vandalism in the city

Vandals raged again in the restroom facilities in the Zuger Vorstadt. Now it’s time for Big Brother.

Scene of the crime is the public restroom in the Zuger Vorstadt: The ground is covered with  fragments of glass, the toilet brush lies beside a heap of paper towels. Empty beer boxes, rumpled toilet paper, the walls, pissoirs and doors smeared with swastikas, racist, sexist, immature and primitive sayings – a sad view of the newly renovated public restroom facilities.
One means to fight violence and vandalism is to install a closed circuit television in the public area, as has already been done in the cantons of St. Gallen and Lucerne. “We’re working out a project and have taken a look at how Lucerne deals with such problems” says Security Chief Andreas Bossard. The City Council is fundamentally for a video monitoring of certain places. For the moment though the legal implications are being clarified.
